Harvest attributes and seed quality predict physiological maturity of pennycress

In the Upper Midwest, corn (Zea mays L.) and soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) dominate landscape, but only for six to seven months of year. Thus, opportunities exist establish crops that can utilize remainder growing season contribute overall farm profitability. One species interest is pennycress (Thlaspi arvense L.), a lack established agronomic best management practices barrier successful crop production. The objectives this study were identify range cumulative degree days (CGDD) corresponding physiological maturity, determine optimal harvest window maximizes seed yield oil content, characterize changes in attributes over maturation. This was conducted 2016–2017 2017–2018 seasons with ‘MN106’ at two locations Minnesota, USA. Seed dry weight stabilized within maximum yield, content did not maximize until after period. However, there minimal loss when harvested maximization window. Based on these parameters, as well moisture, it estimated reached maturity between 2230 2250 °C d CGDD, or about week prior terms phenology. Delaying resulted 26% harvestable due shatter compared average 928 kg ha?1. Ensuring imperative production contribution economic viability.
